BOULDER -The University of Colorado men's and women's cross country team will host its first varsity team scoring meet of the season on Saturday, October 2, when CU hosts the 25th Annual Rocky Mountain Shootout at the Buffalo Ranch on CU's South Campus.

The meet is one of the longest running collegiate cross country races in the nation and will have participants from some of the top NCAA Division I and Division II programs along the Front Range, which includes Colorado's fourth-ranked men's and 13th-ranked women's teams.

The shootout has two categories for team scoring. The Division I opponents are scored against each other, while the non-Division I opponents are scored as one, resulting in two team champions per gender. There is only one individual winner per gender.

For the second straight year the Rocky Mountain Shootout will only have two races. Open runners will compete in the same race at the collegiate competitors. The men's 8 kilometer race will kick off the meet at 9 a.m. and the women's 5.8k race commence at 10 a.m.

CU's men have won the last 19 shootout titles and 20 of the last 24. The last men's Division I team to beat the Buffs was BYU in 1990. The women have won the previous 11 titles and 17 of the last 18 races.
